The College Crusade of Rhode Island Welcomes New Board Members
Colleen Callahan and Saikon Gbehan named to board of directors
Providence, R.I., August 30, 2010 – The College Crusade of Rhode Island today announced that Colleen A. Callahan, Ed.D., of Cumberland, and Saikon T. Gbehan, Esq., of Johnston, have joined the organization’s board of directors.
“We are fortunate to welcome Colleen Callahan and Saikon Gbehan to our board of directors,” said Paul E. Moran, CPA, chair of the board of directors for The College Crusade. “They each bring unique talents and perspectives to our team. Dr. Callahan is a recognized leader in education with extensive professional responsibilities at both state and national levels. Saikon Gbehan is a Rhode Island attorney who was a member of the initial graduating class of Crusaders in 2001 and is the first former Crusader to join our board. We are excited to have Colleen and Saikon join us and are grateful for their willingness to dedicate their valuable time and energy to our mission.”
Colleen Callahan is Director of Professional Issues for the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers & Health Professionals (RIFTHP), where she coordinates the union’s extensive program of professional support for members and leaders. A sixth-grade classroom teacher for 20 years, Dr. Callahan also represents the RIFTHP on numerous state and national boards and committees and currently serves as an appointed member of the RI Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education. Currently, she is serving as the program director for the RIFTHP/AFT’s Innovation Fund initiative on teacher evaluation, working with labor-management teams from six RI urban districts to create a model teacher evaluation and support system in collaboration with the RI Department of Education. Dr. Callahan holds B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Rhode Island College and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Johnson and Wales University.
Saikon Gbehan, Esq., is an attorney in private practice in Providence. Most recently, she was a Civil Litigation Attorney for the law firm Adler Pollack & Sheehan in Providence. In 1991, when she was in third grade, Ms. Gbehan was enrolled as a member of the first class of The College Crusade and graduated from Central High School in 2001. She holds a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, where she received scholarship awards for academic excellence and served as Treasurer of the Black Law Students Association. As an undergraduate, Ms. Gbehan earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island with the support of a College Crusade scholarship.
