High School Programs and Services
Every high school Crusader has the opportunity to participate in the following core requirements and electives.
Core Requirements
High School Orientation – Our specially designed orientations help you mark key transition points throughout your high school career. Orientations keep you informed about expectations and program information for the school year. Crusaders attend one orientation per year during high school.
Advisor Services – Your College Crusade Advisor is a trained professional who supports you throughout your school experience and helps you stay on the path to college. You are required to meet with your Advisor regularly.
College Visits - College visits give you the opportunity to explore, evaluate and get first-hand information about many colleges in New England, with a particular focus on schools that are part of our Scholarship Collaborative, both in Rhode Island and throughout southern New England. You have the opportunity to visit colleges every year.
Cru Club Activities – Cru Club is a new mix of activities and services that all Crusaders have the opportunity to participate in throughout the year. It includes:

ElectivesPeer Mentoring - The Peer Mentoring program is designed to support Crusaders in the transition to high school. Each incoming 9th-grader is matched with a Crusader from a higher grade, who serves as a mentor. A thematic 14-week program provides guidance for all incoming students.
Learn It! Use It! – This program, which is part of The College Crusade’s Saturday Academy, supports students in 9th grade. Class size is small, between 10 and 15 students, in order to maintain personalized attention. The program is based on the premise that students learn by doing. Activities help Crusaders discover and reflect, to build essential math and English skills and to make learning their own.
Smart Start – This program, which is part of The College Crusade’s Saturday Academy, is a multi-level comprehensive math and English skill-building course for 10th-grade and 11th-grade Crusaders. The course lays groundwork for more targeted test preparation later on.
Getting to College Workshop – This workshop is intended to teach Crusaders how to master various elements of the college admission process. Participants have an opportunity to analyze each component of the college application and to begin compiling information needed to complete the application. Crusaders also participate in workshops led by college admission professionals that emphasize the personal essay.
SAT Test Preparation - The Princeton Review offers SAT test prep to 11th-grade Crusaders. The SAT Course incorporates four full-length (4 hours) practice SATs and eight 3-hour classes. The course is designed to give students comprehensive preparation for the SAT.
FAFSA Nights - In our effort to ensure that financial barriers are minimized, we provide individualized support for Crusaders and their families as they navigate the tricky waters of the Financial Aid process. College Crusade staff along with financial aid professionals meet with Crusaders and families one-on-one to help them fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form.
Crusade Summer Experience – Crusaders participate in a weeklong leadership program held at the Multicultural Center at the University of Rhode Island Kingston campus. The week focuses on developing leadership skills in public speaking, teambuilding, project planning and facilitation.
College Camperships – Our Camperships invite Crusaders to participate in summer academic enrichment programs on college campuses such as Brown University and Johnson & Wales University. All tuition fees for the program are sponsored by The College Crusade.
